Use Blended Gifts to Meet Your Year-End Planning Objectives

Year-end tax planning is a ritual for many Americans - and wisely so. It is tempting to think of it primarily as a furious scramble to find deductions and reduce taxable income. But good planning goes well beyond that and, when properly done, its impact can reach well into the future.

This issue of our newsletter explores how you can blend different gift types to accomplish the year-end objectives that you identify as your top priorities - and use this creative planning to give you the best overall results. The key is to focus on the three major components of planning objectives:

Financial iconFinancial Objectives. In addition to saving current taxes, good planning addresses a host of financial objectives such as increasing spendable cash flow, avoiding or reducing capital-gain taxes, or making sure you have a secure retirement.

Personal iconPersonal Objectives. Good planning can address personal objectives such as supporting tuition expenses of a child or grandchild, assisting an elderly parent, or simply relieving yourself of the burden of managing assets.

Charitable iconCharitable Objectives. Those with philanthropic goals can have a wide range of charitable aspirations. For many of our friends, the foundation of their charitable objectives is built around steady, consistent annual giving. Donors may also look for the best way to make periodic major gifts or to support a special campaign. They may also choose to endow a special purpose or include Ivy Tech in their estate plans.
