Avid philanthropist and civic volunteer Lorene Burkhart is passionate about providing educational opportunities for low-income women.

In addition to becoming a Circle of Ivy member, Lorene has chosen to leave a percentage of her estate to Ivy Tech. Her involvement with a research project with the Sagamore Institute regarding low-income mothers initially inspired her giving.

“I think that Ivy Tech has an opportunity to be a leader in the efforts to help people living in poverty.”

A native of Indiana, Lorene became a home economics teacher before beginning a career in radio, television, and publishing. She has written seven books and holds an honorary associate’s degree from Ivy Tech and honorary doctorate degrees from Purdue University and the University of Indianapolis.
