Jason Volk grew up in Blanford, a small community near the Illinois border in west central Indiana. He is a 2017 graduate of South Vermillion High School and is currently enrolled in the nursing program at the Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute campus—something that would not be possible without the financial assistance he is receiving through scholarships.

“I am a proud recipient of the Hannig Memorial Scholarship and the Donald E. Nelson Scholarship,” Jason says. “I wish I could thank them in person for their support. I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for their legacy gifts to Ivy Tech Community College, which will be available for generations of students after me.” The generosity of these Cornerstone Society members “will always be remembered.”

A self-proclaimed “nerd,” Jason participated in Academic Super Bowl yearly in high school and took “as many AP and dual-credit courses as possible.” He particularly loved calculus and anatomy and physiology, which helped lead him to pursue a career as a registered nurse.

“It has long been my goal to obtain a career in health care,” Jason says. “I am absolutely intrigued by the natural world and guided by a desire to make the world a better place. It is my ambition to care for those in desperate need, so I cannot begin to imagine a more fitting career that both engages my interests and fulfills my personal aspirations.”

At Ivy Tech, Jason says, “It is possible to work a part-time job and pay for my education as I progress. The financial aid I receive, accompanied by the low cost of attendance, enables me to advance without financially crippling myself for years to come. I am eternally grateful for the impact both scholarships have had on me and on countless other individuals.”
